FLEX & TECH
Teacher: Rosie Maciver-Redwood
Hey! My name is Rosie and I’m a final year Language, Culture and Communication student.
I’m so looking forward to teaching Flex and Tech this coming year. Good technique facilitates all the other aspects of dance which make it an art form. It widens your range of expressions and allows your individuality as a dancer to shine through! That may all sound like waffle but it’s so important! I’ve been dancing since the age of 3, ballet consistently, and tap, contemporary, modern and jazz at different points of my childhood. CMD was the perfect way to continue that dance training whist at Uni! After my first year at Warwick I enrolled on the musical theatre foundation course at ArtsEd where I received 15 hours of dance training per week. The focus on a building a strong technical foundation taught me so much more than I’d learnt up until then in my dance education.
Classes will have a consistent warm-up, stretching and conditioning routine to make the most of our time and to measure progress. We will also spend time discussing anatomy, the best ways of stretching and how to look after your body if dancing intensely. Each class will have a different focus, influenced by the wants and needs of the class so start thinking if there’re any areas of technique or flexibility you’d like to focus on (e.g. turn-out, breathing, arms, feet)! Classes are for ALL abilities, exercises will be simple and everything will be explained and even for advanced dancers, going back to basics is always beneficial! I look forward to seeing you there!
