Teacher: Pip Hyde
Hi, I’m Pip. I am a second year Maths student and I am so excited to be teaching beginner ballet this year. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and have trained to intermediate level in Ballet in the RAD syllabus with merits and distinctions. As well as this I have completed the grade 5 and intermediate ISTD modern exams, and have performed with the English Youth Ballet. My class will focus on learning about balletic technique and improving confidence performing as a dancer in a welcoming environment. The class will start with a warm up to improve strength and flexibility and then move onto exercises to improve technique both in the centre and using the barre. Also in each class we will spend some time on choreography for the termly showcase. I want to create a friendly and judgemental-free zone for everybody where you can dance your worries away! Whether you’ve never tried dance before or simply haven’t danced in a while, come to a class and get involved with CMD. See you in class!
Teacher: Amy Bohm
Hi, I’m Amy. I am a fourth year Biological Sciences student and I am so excited to be teaching intermediate ballet this year. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and have trained to intermediate level in Ballet in the IDTA syllabus and since joining CMD I’ve ventured into lyrical and contemporary styles. I love the elegance and grace that surrounds Ballet so my class will focus on building balletic technique, as well as building confidence as a dancer. The class will start with a warm up to improve strength and flexibility and then move onto exercises to improve technique both in the centre and using the barre. Also, in each class we will spend some time on choreography for the termly showcase! As dancing is all about enjoying yourself and feeling confident my class will support your growth as a dancer in a relaxed and friendly environment, whether you have danced your whole life, or haven’t danced in a while. CMD has become such an important part of my university life, so I strongly encourage you to come and see what all the fuss is about!
Teacher: Cat Mason
Hi! I am Cat, a 2nd year Psychology student and the Advanced ballet teacher for this year. I started dancing when I was 2 years old. Since then, I have completed the grades and vocational exams up to Advanced 1 in RAD ballet and ISTD Modern, performed with the London Children's Ballet company and have competed and taken part in various festivals, workshops and summer schools. I was delighted to join CMD to be able to carry on dancing, not only to keep up a level of physical fitness but to be creative and momentarily escape from the stress that can be university life! In my class I hope to create an accepting and welcoming environment for everyone, whether you are an experienced dancer or are coming back to ballet after time away. I love classical ballet technique; however, I want to broaden my classes with neo-classical ballet styles and explore our bodies and their movements in less traditional ways than a classical ballet dancer would. I can’t wait to dance with you in class!
